DEA acts to ban 'bath salts'

By Jenny Arnold - Spartanburg Herald Journal

SPARTANBURG, SC (September 29, 2011) -

Two people arrested this week by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office were under the influence of a synthetic drug known as “bath salts,” according to deputies.

In one case, a man who said he had eaten the drug, currently sold legally in the Upstate, fired gunshots inside his home and at his neighbors in Cowpens, deputies said.

After his arrest, the man told deputies there was a dead body in his home, but no body was found.

A woman was also arrested Tuesday and charged with trespassing after she harassed a neighbor repeatedly. She told deputies she had been snorting bath salts.

Both people were taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for observation before they were jailed.
